Falling into place

Well folks, its either feast or famine at the Olsens. We've been waiting around for lots of things to fall into place since we got to Lubbock: selling our Jetta, turning over our apartment lease, and me getting something to do with employment or at least an assistantships squared away. Waiting stinks. And for us the things we've been waiting for have been a big chain of dominoes, each one hinges on the preceding one. We need the Jetta to sell so our down payment money is available for us. We don't really want to buy a replacement car until our Jetta sells, and until we have down payment money in order we don't want to try to sell our lease for the apartment. But waiting to try and sell the lease means we may be stuck waiting for it to sell. And yeah, I need a job, sitting around being the domestic daddy is nice, but I do prefer the breadwinner role :)

Enter this week: I got some great great great financial news regarding school this fall the Friday before, so while I still want a job, the long term consequences of my unemployment have been all but mitigated. (details to follow later) Then two buyers show up for our car, one claims it first and the other asks that if anything falls through we sell it to him. WOW! So we post the apartment lease on craigslist, and the next day we have a couple who wants to move in at the first of July! Double WOW!
Also, since I got accepted to TTU we have been house hunting, mainly on internet listing sites, while occasionally driving by a select few to look closer. Well we decided to move forward on getting a mortgage approval and looking at local homes. We found a great house that we REALLY REALLY like, for a price that we like EVEN BETTER in a fantastic part of town, and a great neighborhood. On top of that, it has enough fixer-up type problems that right now are bringing its cost down but that with our elbow grease and some equity we can easily expect to sell it in 5 years for a decent profit. We are making an offer on it tomorrow! Here's a picture of this diamond in the rough, don't you love the sweet yellow paint?

In addition to all the craziness of house hunting, we needed to get a replacement car, so we've been looking around in the area and as far as Dallas and San Antonio. We found one particular one that we felt was a good deal and in great shape, so with the help of our friends, the Kulbeths, I was able to travel down to San Antonio on Friday and purchase the car, a 2004 Honda CR-V! We love love love it! So roomy you could sleep in it. We will have this car until it dies on us.


Oh and if we could not have already been gushing with gratitude and excitement, just today at church a couple that we just recently have gotten to know asked how our house hunting was going and when we explained that we would be moving out of our apartment before we could move into a home, they offered us their house for the entire month of July since they are leaving town for a 6 week trip! We really can't express how blessed we are, I feel so short sighted sometimes when things are going bad because everything ALWAYS turns out for the best. So here we are, a week later, and everything is in place, we feel good about our offer to buy the house, and if it is turned down, we have some good alternatives we'll explore. We couldn't have imagined how quickly our situation here could reverse itself!
