Progress and Change
First off... my sister came to town a couple of weeks ago and we had a blast. We didn't really do much which is why there are few pictures to show for the week. We had fun at the park, played games, watched movies... what else is there to do when it is 100 degrees outside. Boo Lubbock, boo!!! She flew in right before our stake's 5K so we got to run that together. She fared the Lubbock heat better than I did which means we didn't actually run together. I ran in her dust the whole way. Well that's not actually true either. The dust had long settled by the time I came a-trotting.
But she did push me throughout the rest of the week she was here. She is up to running 5 miles at a time, so I said what the heck, I would love to die today, why don't I join you. I found it wasn't too bad so it motivated me to increase my distance since I have been doing 3 miles most of the time. Another of my sisters is also in to running and mentioned that she is running several official 5k's this summer. She too inspired me, so I found a local running club that sponsors 13 races a year and joined. The next race was in 1 week, but unfortunately for me it was a 10k. I trained as best as one can in a week and raced it this morning. It was a bit of a killer. My body is still so use to running 3 miles that about mile 4 my legs didn't want to keep going any more. But finish I did, and second in my class of runners, never you mind that there are only 2 people in my class for this race. :) I finished in 1:17:45... which is about a 12.5 minute mile average. For now I am content with that distance, and just focusing on speeding up a bit. We will see if I ever make that leap to a half marathon. For now 6 miles is enough to ask of my poor tree trunk legs. :)
Another great accomplishment for this week is reaching the weight that it stated on my drivers license, something I haven't been for 10 years. Yeah me, I'm no longer a liar!
And lastly I decided that the hair had to go. I have been growing it out for almost 2 years and I realized today that I haven't "done" my hair in months, due to the running oh and also it's way too hot in Lubbock to wear it down ever. So short hair is in as long as I'm in Lubbock. :) Lately Daylin has been commenting alot on how people (particually me and herself) look. Unfortunately, I get the brutally honest comment, "that doesn't look so cute" way more than the alternative. But when I walked in the door from getting my hair cut she said, "Oh, you look so beautiful." She can be so cute sometimes!
