I know I know, we haven't posted in a while. Since Jill reminded me of that fact yesterday, as well as my mom this morning I thought I'd try to think of something to post about. Well, Daylin provided it for us today, shes started to scoot along on her belly. Hopefully she'll be crawling right along in a week or two!

Howdy from Texas!
We are now here in Lubbock Texas, safe and sound. Many thanks to the many people who helped us pack and clean (Thanks Sarah for spending most of your Saturday unloading our crap, and thanks Mom for spending a day helping Kate clean our apartment). The trip down was nice, for 17 hours it sure didn't feel that long. And how many of you can say that the last time you went camping you just opened up your trunk and whipped out your love sac to sleep on. It was a novel experience, I wish I'd taken a picture!
Picking up Kate was also very interesting, on my way over to the airport by the field outside the airport 3-4 cars were just parked on the side of the road. Turns out, there is no waiting area for arriving flights, so when in Rome... Just sit on the side of the road and watch the only flight for the next couple of hours to arrive, then drive to the pick up zone. Yeah folks, its a wee bit remote out here, no bustling SLC airport here.
Unloading was a nightmare, I kinda forgot about securing some muscle to help with hauling everything up to the second floor. Kate flew with Daylin since a 17 hour car trip was way too much for Daylin. Unfortunately, so was a 5 hour flight to Lubbock, she was pretty cranky the whole way :(
Once we got unloaded and unpacked, and took some very long naps, we set out to get a feel for our new home. So far everything has been pretty great. The weather has been fantastic, staying in the 70s and 80s with just a touch of humidity. Today is supposed to top 100, so the last few days may just be a fluke. But the evenings are cool and the parks are close by and pleasant. Some positives thus far:
1. Grid system, yeah for sensible traffic planning!
2. GPS, yeah for satellite help to find such basics as grocery stores, libraries and quite frequently how to get back home!
3. Landscaping, wow, the worst kept yard we've seen so far has been at least as good as most of the nicer yards in Utah, when its hot and the grass doesn't grow, everyone seems to take great pride in the shrubs and plants.
4. Astro-turf lawns! No joke, we were out walking and admiring the local neighborhood when we saw a yard up ahead that had greener grass than all the rest. Sure enough, 100% artificial astro-turf grass.
5. Fresh starts, moving has been a great excuse to recommit to all those basics you should be doing but haven't been. Its probably the one thing I am most grateful for about moving right now, a fresh start at ordering my life the way it should be.
6. One of those fresh starts has been Facebook, that's right you can now find us both on Facebook. It is true that Kate's grandmother has been asking for a while when we would get with it. We made it at last Elsie!
7. House hunting; number of local houses for sale under $80,000? Almost 200!
8. Upgrading square footage, going from 600 to 1200 square feet? Wow, houses can be roomy?! Amazing!
9. Breezy evenings, so so so pleasant!
And now a few cons:
1. Dusty, already we get a sense for the not so nice side of the breezy evenings.
2. No Jamba juice :( If any locals know of a good substitute please let us know!
3. No real friends or family around, no offense to those who were so kind to me when I came down to interview, but for the most part we are starting over from scratch. So we've been bringing out the two player board games, getting lost in Lubbock and deciding to rent the TV series "Heroes" which we've never seen.
So I will sign off now that ya'll have gotten a taste of our adventures thus far. Enjoy the pictures we've taken so far, admittedly, they are mostly of Daylin:

We get such a kick out of her biting the spoon as hard as she can! It reminds me of those bitter beer face commercials.
